Painting by knitting and knitting while painting (“knipainting”)

The knitted painting has officially been started! The first layer was knipainted in a clear gesso; when it dried it’s more a difference in texture. I think the next layer will be a thick paint — that way it will give the canvas texture and ridges to guide and hold more fluid layers, like ink. Knitting with paintbrushes is actually producing a legitimate knitted object, much to my surprise (I thought it would be a mess of loops and knots). I’m starting off with a simple garter stitch strip, but I think it will become a little more interesting with further knipainting.
